It’s Friday morning. I’m sitting in my living room. And as I look around I realize everything has a story:

Meeting my wife.
Adopting our puppy.
Wrapping the tattered cover of my old blue Bible with packing tape.
Buying the chair I’m sitting in.

Together, all these stories begin to reveal who I am and what I’m doing in life.

But before long, most of us begin to ask even bigger questions about how all the little stories in our own lives fit into the bigger story of the world around us. How does our story fit in our family? In Georgia? In America? And, ultimately, how does our story mesh with the great story of God?

In Luke 24, Jesus quietly encounters a pair of travelers who are trying to sort out those same kinds of questions about their own lives. And Jesus, in all his resurrected wisdom, doesn’t share one-liners or even a 5-point sermon. He answers their questions by telling them the one, great story of God’s work in history. And when their eyes were opened to that one story, their hearts and their direction changed forever.

As we begin this series, hopefully we will grasp an overview of this One Story of God’s Kingdom in the Bible as an introduction to the next several months of digging deeper into the rich and revealing chapters of God’s story through history.
