How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!
-Psalm 133:1

There is something hard-wired into our hearts that longs for unity. Something deep within us resonates when it’s present. And we are disturbed when it’s absent–whether it’s within a family, a team, a business, a neighborhood, or a church. It’s intangible, but we can sense it. It’s invisible, but we can “see” it.

Unity… it was God’s plan from the beginning. It’s what Jesus prayed for those who would believe the disciple’s message. It’s what Paul commanded. And it’s what the early church modeled. Why is it one of the deepest desires of our hearts, and yet everything around us battles against it? Is it even possible in a world so defined by brokenness and separation, strife and discord?

We all want fruitful lives. We want our families and our businesses, our schools and our ministries, to be flourishing and abundant, healthy and thriving. It is critical that we wrestle with the reality that woven into the fabric of creation, unity is the context for fertility. Sunday we will dive into God’s deep desire for His people, for those called by His name… “May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” (John 17:23)
