If you were looking for a King what kind of person would you look for?

I have spent the week re-reading and praying over the record of the three Great Kings of Israel: Saul, David and Solomon. Their lives are fascinating, inspirational, riveting and instructional. The primary passages of Scripture describing this period begin in 1 Samuel and extend through 1 Kings 11. It begins with a little boy who learns to hear from God and ends with a cynical old man.

How is it possible that something that begins so well can end so badly?

I believe all of us want to finish well. If we are to finish well we must learn from those who did not. Each began well. All ended in heartbreak.

This week we are going to learn how not to squander great opportunity. It’s really a simple lesson; listen to God.
