Grace Snellville Student Ministry Snapshot:
At Grace Snellville, we aim to reach the next generation so intentionally that 20 years ago we chose to build our church less than a mile from Brookwood High School and within an 8 mile radius of five additional major public high schools. Our strategy (which we borrow from the example of Jesus in the Gospels) is to disciple and empower our students to lead in all sorts of ways. At the middle school level, we train students to lead their peers in on-campus meetings called Thrive Clubs. We invest in our high schoolers through discipleship groups so that they can lead and disciple groups of middle schoolers within the framework of a Wednesday night gathering called LUG (Living Under Grace). And we empower our college students to start house churches wherever God calls them. During the last two decades, the Student Ministry has not only been a major focus of the efforts of the local church but also a leadership and discipleship launching pad that has produced all sorts of rooted renegade leaders, both within the ministry and beyond.

Position Description:
We are looking for an exemplary Student Pastor who will lead the Grace Snellville Student Ministry and the Student Staff in Grace’s effort to disciple and empower students across the Middle School, High School, and College age groups. This person will be both a pastor and a strategic leader for a dynamic, relationship-based ministry anchored in the local church but extending into local school campuses and activities. In order to succeed, the Student Pastor will need to multiply himself/herself by investing in an enthusiastic team of staff and volunteer leaders who will share their faith and make disciples. This will require (1) a proven track-record of biblical disciple-making and leadership development, (2) a sincere alignment with the beliefs, culture, and strategy of the Grace Family of Churches and (3) the ability to recruit, develop, align, and empower volunteers, leaders, and teams. Ideal candidates are both passionate and compassionate about walking with young people through the unique generational challenges they currently face.
We’ve got a strong team for you to join, including a church staff with lots of student ministry experience. Grace Snellville is experiencing exciting growth, and we can’t wait to have a positive and enthusiastic person to join us!

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with church leaders in planning, developing and implementing all aspects of a balanced and engaging youth ministry. This will include:

  • Displaying Christ-like character and lifestyle, as well as praying regularly for young people in the church and community.
  • Overseeing, growing, and coordinating the church’s student ministry.
  • Leading and developing the Student Staff team.
  • Designing, overseeing and examining curriculum for all programs, events and classes.
  • Leading middle, high school, and college students to encourage their spiritual growth.
  • Interacting with students during student gatherings.
  • Developing positive relationships with students and their parents, including pastoral care and involvement as needed.
  • Developing and executing a strategy to communicate key events and build the ministry culture through social media and other key avenues.
  • Recruiting youth into various church ministries.
  • Growing students to be passionate about God’s Word and following Jesus well.
  • Deepening community relationships and sponsorships with organizations, schools, businesses, etc.
  • Attending and participating in staff meetings.
  • Following-up with new students and those who have not attended in a while.
  • Serve as youth advocate by educating and enlightening the broader congregation about the hopes, concerns and needs of the youth in the local church and community on a regular basis.
  • Resource parents on major life events (i.e. entering middle school and high school, what to look for in colleges, career guidance) in partnership with adult and children’s ministries.
  • Work closely with the Executive Pastor and provide input for the creation of the annual Student budget and event calendar, including an annual discipleship/curriculum plan.

Other General Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain healthy work boundaries.
  • Contribute to all-staff meetings, retreats, and church wide events/classes.
  • Be transparent with working hours and location when off-site during normal working hours.
  • Be available before/after services on Sundays.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Evident relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Deep working knowledge and affection for Scripture, along with the ability to communicate its truth with courage and vitality.
  • 5+ years of previous youth ministry experience.
  • Strong passion for students and young adults with a heart for Gospel-focused, family-based ministry that will disciple students toward spiritual maturity.
  • High emotional and relational intelligence with solid listening, communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Team player and builder.
  • Willingness to initiate, dream, and creatively engage new ministry opportunities, even at the risk of failing.
  • Proficient understanding of challenges and needs of young people.
  • Excellent computer skills, and proficiency with social media.
  • Outstanding communication and teaching skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Affinity for young people.
  • Ability to lead by example.

ABOUT GRACE SNELLVILLE AND THE GRACE FAMILY OF CHURCHES

Grace Family of Churches
At Grace, the origin story of each church is organic, indigenous, and (we believe) profoundly marked by the Holy Spirit. We empower local leaders to reach local communities even as we share essential convictions, community, and cause. We refuse to sacrifice relationship for reach, and we’ve surrendered aspirations of “mega” so that we can multiply. Until now, we know of few who have tried to cut this path between local church autonomy and interdependence, but we aim to try, because our families need Family and the work of Jesus is always flesh-and-blood real. Our calling is to be God’s People (firmly rooted in the great story of God) on Mission (to make disciples in the neighborhoods, nations, and next generation) Together (living in gracious and enjoyable community).

  • We are NEIGHBORS, living intentionally & honorably with those around us.
  • We are PIONEERS, adventurously going with God to the nations.
  • We are DREAMERS, seeing the invisible, hearing the inaudible, and expecting the impossible.
