Desperate people will try just about anything. From infomercials to the latest fad diets, we seek out answers that often seem too good to be true.
In John 5 we meet a desperate man. He is alone, seeking an answer from something that seems to hold no answers. We can do that same thing today. We can seek hope from places that hold no hope, and the consequences are great–for us and those we love. Sunday we will read and study the story of Jesus encountering this desperate man. Jesus walks in uninvited and asks him an odd question, “Would you like to get well?” What happens next is beautiful, it’s supernatural, and it can still happen today.
What a romantic, marvelous thing to meet God–that is to be suddenly visited by the Son of God who addresses you and addresses your problem and puts you on your feet to walk. –Martin Lloyd Jones
