When I was a child growing up in church, choirs were big, had robes and sang massive anthems accompanied by massive pipe organs. There was something majestic about it. One of those historic hymns still echos in my mind:

“I’ve seen the lighting flashing,
I’ve heard the thunder roll;
I’ve felt sin’s breakers dashing,
Trying to conquer my soul.
I’ve heard the voice of Jesus,
Telling me still to fight on.
He promised never to leave me,
Never to leave me alone.”

Yet still we find our world and our churches with spiritually lonely people. I do not mean they do not know people, I mean they do not know God. They do not sense His presence and they do not hear His voice. If you do not believe me, ask them. Ask the next Christian you meet, “When was the last time that you really heard God speak to you?” This Sunday we will open God’s Word and dig into John 10. Here’s what Jesus told his followers, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me.” Here is the question, “Do you hear the Shepherd?”
